Carroll County Fair gets underway Monday

The opening of the Carroll County Fair is just around the corner. In fact, it gets in full swing next week, Sept. 17-22.

However, there will be two beauty revues on Saturday night, Sept. 15. The first one is for Teen Fairest of the Fair (ages 13-15) that begins at 6:30 p.m. with registration starting at 5:30 p.m. with a fee of $15 required. Miss Fairest of the Fair (ages 16 – 20) will immediately follow the first pageant. A $30 registration fee was required for the contestants, who had an entry deadline of Sept. 6.

The contestants for Miss Fairest of the Fair have mandatory practice at the Civic Center at 2:30 p.m. Interviews will be held beginning at 3:30 p.m. there.

The winner of the Fairest of the Fair will receive a 4-day/3-night all-expense paid trip to the Tennessee “Fairest of the Fair” contest which is sponsored by the Tennessee Association of Fairs.

During the week, for pageant entry only, the admission fee is $5.

To officially open the fair, something new has been added, according to Fair President Laura Keeton.

“An opening ceremony will be held on Monday at 6 p.m.,” said Keeton.

The national anthem will be sung with the town of McLemoresville being honored as the chosen town to be highlighted. Each year a different town will be highlighted as the fair kicks off.

From Tuesday through Saturday, fair goers will have a chance to view a traveling display that has the names of Tennessee soldiers who have died in the various wars. The large panels of names will either be inside the exhibit building or the civic center, depending on the room needed for the display.

There will be food booths that will feature those mouth-watering slaw burgers and hot dogs along with other good tasting selections. The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and Huntingdon Alumni Association will be serving these great foods for lunch and until 9 o’clock or so each night.

Pope Concessions will also have lots of good food on the midway. Sonshine Amusement Co. will provide exciting rides beginning Monday and continuing through Saturday.
