That was one of the main ingredients for business success stressed by Clarksville media executive Katie Gambill as she spoke during the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Business Expo Thursday at the Carroll County Civic Center in Huntingdon.
As president and general manager for 5 Star Radio, Katie manages eight radio stations and a successful online hyper-local news site called Clarksvillenow.com, which boasts 360,000 monthly users.
“You will never meet a successful person who says they didn’t make mistakes or fail,” said Gambill. “You have to make plans, but realize that there are going to be bumps and potholes along the way – and sometimes you have to course correct. You stop, evaluate what you’re doing, and make adjustments.”
Gambill pointed to Milton Hershey, Walt Disney, and Col. Sanders as examples of people who did a lot of course correcting on their road to success.
“If you’re uncomfortable in your situation, there’s probably something growing inside you,” she said.
Gambill also shared a few of her favorite catch phrases for success, including “tweak, don’t freak” and “it’s okay to fake it till you make it.”
“I went to nursing school, and now I’m doing marketing,” she said. “And I love what I do.”
Gambill serves on the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is a past chairman of the board for the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters.
