Former Carroll County circuit court clerk, Bertha Taylor, has set a record with her 41 years of working in the Carroll County courthouse.
County officials received the oath of office from Carroll County General Sessions Judge Larry Logan Aug. 31 at 9 a.m. in the upstairs court room of the Carroll County Courthouse.
Carroll County's newly elected mayor Joseph G. Butler was only nine years old when his father, Walter Butler, was elected to the county's top position in 1994. The position’s name then was county executive.
With the deadline of Aug. 16 fast approaching for the Nov. 6 city elections across the county, with the exception of Clarksburg, a number of people have picked up petitions. However, only seven have qualified. Aug. 16 at noon is the qualifying deadline.

Early voting ended Saturday at noon. During the Early Voting period from July 13 to July 28 at noon, 3,019 persons voted. Voting in the State Republican Primary were 2,192 and in the State Democratic Primary, 710 votes were cast. Only 117 voted in the County General alone.
Natalie Porter (incumbent, Democrat) and Harold Smith (independent) are vying for the office of register of deeds.
