The Huntingdon Middle School Mustangs won their fourth game of the year against one loss as they defeated West Carroll 36-14 in the last home game of the year. The Mustangs are 4-1 and had a second half cancelled at Camden that didn’t count on their record.
The Mustangs will finish their season this Thursday night at Bruceton with a 6:30 kick-off.
The Middle Mustangs got off to a fast start against the War Eagles as they recovered a fumble to begin the game and scored on an 82-yard six play drive. Tayshawn Rivers, who has been the leading rusher for the Mustangs this season, scored on a four-yard run for the touchdown. Ashton Hutcherson scored on the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. On the drive Rivers, who rushed for 111 yards for the night and caught two passes for 49 yards, ran three times for 39 and caught a pass for 24.
Rivers scored the Mustangs second touchdown of the night early in the second quarter as he caught a swing pass from Kaleb Pearson and raced 25 yards for the score. The Mustangs failed on the two-point conversion, leaving the score at 14-0.
The Mustangs then took a 22-0 lead into the half as Rivers scored his third touchdown of the night on seven-yard run. Hutcherson threw a pass to Isaiah Austin for the two-point conversion and an insurmountable lead at the half.
The third quarter was scoreless, but the Mustangs built their lead to 30-0 with three minutes gone into the fourth. Ty Kelley scored on a counter play that was well blocked by the Mustang offense, and Kelley raced untouched for a 35-yard touchdown. Kelley then passed to Elijah Flowers for the two-point conversion and the big lead for the Mustangs.
West Carroll answered back after holding the Mustangs on downs during their next possession and scored on a 24-yard pass from Jaxon Mims to Malik Lee. Mims then completed a two-point conversion pass to Bladen Depriest and the score stood at 30-6.
The Mustangs answered right back with a 16-yard run by Jax Bennett late in the fourth. The two-point conversion failed and the Mustangs led 36-8. Tyler Shaddon added the final points of the night as West Carroll scored on a 54-yard run by Shaddon to make the final score 36-14.
